In the first thirty-seven selections uninteresting parts have been omitted from the original text, and obsolete words and constructions have been replaced. The aim has been, however, to alter the text as little as possible, even at the risk of allowing an expression to remain which may now seem quaint. Elsewhere no changes in the text have been made. Eight lines have been omitted from Dos sabios because they are rather indelicate, and eight from El potro del señor cura because they contain dialect.
